Our Choices for Best Credit Cards for Those with Excellent Credit Scores

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® is your card choice if you seek to travel with flexibility! Its rewards program is arranged so you earn 2 points per dollar for travel and dining expenses, and any other expense earns you 1 point per dollar. The drawback is a $95 annual fee. The best part is threefold: $0 foreign transaction fees, earn 50,000 bonus points by spending $4,000 in 3 months after opening the account, and transfer your points 1:1 to many frequent travel programs with no transfer fees. This includes programs like Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards®, Marriott Rewards® and United MileagePlus®. So what you're really paying for is flexibility, and it's well worth it for some. If that's you, get it. If not, consider one of these other cards...

Citi Double Cash® Card

The Citi Double Cash® is the card of choice for those with excellent credit seeking simplicity and an all-around great card! This card's rewards program is arranged so you earn 1% cash back when you buy and 1% when you pay your monthly statement, even if all you pay is your minimum each month. There is no reason to think about enrollment, activation, or category requirements because they are not a part of the Citi Double Cash®. Unlike some cards, there's no need to log in to activate rewards. The drawback to this card is the lack of bonus reward categories. With some cards, you might earn higher rewards, but only for purchases within categories. But if you don't want the hassle of tracking all that, then this isn't much of a disadvantage when it comes to this card. And the best part is threefold: $0 annual fee, access to Private Pass, and a financing offer of 18 months of 0% interest on balance transfers with a 3% balance transfer fee.

Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

The Blue Cash Preferred® card from American Express is the credit card for you if you seek the perfect grocery, gas, and department store rewards card! Its rewards program is arranged so you earn 6% cash back for groceries, 3% for gas, 3% at department stores, and 1% cash back anywhere else. There is no need to think about shifting bonus reward categories—these are steadfast and unchanging. This card does have two drawbacks: a $95 annual fee, and a grocery spending limit of $6,000. Once you've reached the grocery limit, you earn 1% back on supermarket purchases, without any limit. It should be noted that superstores, wholesale stores, and alcohol retailers are not a part of the supermarket 6% cash back, so if you shop a lot at place like Costco and Walmart, don't use this card. Three other great things about this card: $0 annual fee, 3% cash back every time on gas and department store purchases, and AMEX's return policy.

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is your credit card if you seek consistency and simplicity! This rewards program is arranged so you automatically earn 1.5% cash back on all purchases, without limits. There is no need to log in to activate rewards, or think about reward categories when making purchases. The drawback is that it has a 3% foreign transaction fee. The advantages of this card include: $0 annual fee, a $150 sign-up bonus when you spend $500 within three months, and a financing offer of 15 months of 0% APR on both new purchases and balance transfers with a 5% balance transfer fee.
